Strategic Industry Investment Pours into Africa: Capital Arrives, Industrialization Still Pending
The UNCTAD World Investment Report 2026 shows that FDI inflows to Africa in 2025 reached approximately USD 70 billion. Although lower than the USD 94 billion in 2024, it remains the third highest level since 1990. Energy, critical minerals, and infrastructure continue to attract global investors, with the number of greenfield projects rising while their value declined, reflecting broad participation characterized by smaller-scale projects. However, how to transform investment into employment, technology transfer, and industrial upgrading is a threshold that Africa must cross for its future development.
